Description

Heavy-Duty Pickleball Posts by Wilson

The Wilson Heavy-Duty Pickleball Net Posts (Model 3441W) are designed to be embedded permanently into the ground. If you want to remove the posts occasionally, consider purchasing special PVC Sleeves that can be installed during court construction. With the plastic sleeves the posts are removeable. The PVC sleeves are not included with the Heavy-Duty Posts. Posts are available in black or green.

If you’re looking for steel posts that are lighter and more easily removed, look at the regular Wilson Pickleball Posts.

The Heavy-Duty Posts have 1/4”-thick steel walls that measure 2-7/8” in diameter. Each post is 54” tall. Make Sure the posts will rest no more than 1” above the net cord, at a height of about 3’ above the court surface. Heavy Duty Posts include 2 adjustable collars to secure the post at the correct height. Together, the posts weigh around 69 pounds.

The Wilson Heavy-Duty Pickleball Net Posts come with an external reel that is a removable crank-and-ratchet system. This system is made of aluminum and requires use of a 7/64-metric Allen wrench (not included). Net not included. The Wilson Pickleball Net (36" Height) or the Wilson Pickleball Net (31" Height) are designed to be used with these posts.

See videos for more installation information.

IMPORTANT: We recommend reading through all installation instructions and checking height of posts and net prior to permanent installation. The Wilson net is 21' 9" wide. The posts should be placed 22' 2-7/8" apart (center to center). This will make the distance the USAPA regulation of 22' measured from inside of post to inside of post. Do not install posts at 22 feet or net will not fit correctly. Pickleball Central cannot accept returns or refund due to improper installation.

How to set up the Wilson Heavy-Duty Posts and Net:

Transcript of Video #2 above, with PickleballCentral.com owner David Johnson

Hi David Johnson with Pickleball Central talking today about how to set up Wilson posts and the Wilson net for pickleball. We have two different types of Wilson nets, the standard and the heavy-duty. They both basically go together the same way. You want to place your posts approximately 22 feet, 4 inches apart the center of your pickleball court. They typically get put into a plastic PVC sleeve that is put two feet into the ground. The pin will actually keep the post when you slide it in at the correct height so that it’s 36 inches at the top. And so your post will go into the sleeve and the pin will stop it at the correct place. (Please note: The Heavy Duty Posts do not use the pin system but rather the adjustable collars.)

So when your posts are embedded in the ground and you’re ready to put the net on, you have the wire cable that goes through the net and it has a loop at both ends. So one loop on the net is going to go over your cleat on the cleat side of the post. And then the cable will run up over the pulley at the top of the post. And that will run you down to the other side of the net then. And down here on the crank there is a pin on the inside of the crank and the other end of the net with the loop on it will go into and around the pin and that’s what going to allow you when you tighten up over the pulley on this end allows you when you tighten up over the pulley on this end allows you to tighten the net. By the way, we’re doing this indoors and so we’ve just rigged this up. And you tighten it up until the net at the center of the court is at 34 inches. If the center’s at 34 inches, it should be 36 inches out here at the post, and you basically have the net at the correct height.

The final component of putting the net in, is each Wilson net comes with two rods, and the rod goes into the end sleeve on both ends of the net and it’s just the right length. And then there’s a lacing technique that you will use to lace up the net to the post. I’m not going to show that in this video, but a diagram of that will be available on the website. And your lacing is going to go through the grommets here at the top and on the side and so you’re going to have a good lacing at the top to help hold it and then you will lace down through the four different grommets and that’s going to bring it up nice and tight to the edge of the post. And you will have a net that looks good and is ready to play pickleball. Thank you.

Installation went great with PVC sleeves that can be screw-capped closed when we remove the equipment for the winter months. Next year we may have to order another set and stripe a 2nd court!

Installation Instructions:
  • Wilson Pickleball Posts #501-3441 and 502-241 are compatible with the Wilson Pickleball Net #501-727W and are intended to be permanently embedded into the ground.
  • The footings should be a minimum of 3'6" below the surface or to the local frost depth. The Wilson Pickleball Net is 21' 9" in length. To allow for the proper fitting and correct tension of the net, the center of the footings should be placed 22' 2-7/8" apart.
  • Make sure the posts will rest no higher than 1" above the net cord, at a height of about 3' above the court surface.
  • Post sleeves are recommended as they allow for easy removal of the posts for resurfacing, maintenance, post repair/replacement, and alternate uses of the court. Sleeves for the #501-3441 posts are 24" and are sold separately. Sleeves for the #501-241 posts are included.
  • During the off-season or when winterizing, it is best to remove the posts and plug the sleeves with sleeve covers to prevent moisture and dirt from entering the sleeves.
